Board of Directors
The Board of Directors provides governance and oversight for Backyard Biosecurity Basics – Education, ensuring that the organization operates in accordance with its educational mission, applicable laws, and sound nonprofit governance practices. Day-to-day educational activities and material development are carried out by the Founder and Director. The Board does not provide services, consulting, or regulatory guidance.
L. Jack Rhodes, PhD
Founder and Director
Jack is passionate about animal welfare and biosecurity topics. He has worked with livestock for over 55 years on
his family farm. He enjoys managing livestock breeding programs and is interested in animal welfare, biosecurity,
safety, and educational topics. Backyard Biosecurity Basics – Education is a separate legal entity distinct
from his family farm, and does not operate, promote, or receive direct or indirect financial benefit from any farm
or commercial agricultural operation.
Matthew B. Ríos
Director
Matthew is passionate about wildlife conservation and animal welfare. His graduate research studied welfare and vocal
communication in captive elephants, and his current work involves ecosystem monitoring in New England. He enjoys
exploring the outdoors, trying foods from all cultures, and meeting new people.
Horace Tseng
Director
Horace has experience supporting the growth of small organizations and is currently engaged in entrepreneurial activities
related to model transportation vehicles. He has a long-standing interest in model railroading. His entrepreneurial
activities are entirely separate from, and unrelated to, the mission or operations of Backyard Biosecurity Basics – Education.
